Dr. James Likoudis
Dr. James Likoudis (1928-) is an internationally recognized apologist, theologian, and lecturer on religious education, sex education, and family life. He is regarded as a leading authority on Ecumenism, Liturgy, the Papacy, Catechetics and the role of the Laity in the Church. His expertise and erudition in Papal and Conciliar history and a vast knowledge of Orthodoxy issues, have won him particular renown.
He earned his B.A. studying history and philosophy at the University of Buffalo, holds a masters’ degree in education from Elmira College, and is a former College Instructor in History and Government with over 20 years of teaching experience in public and private education, including the Franciscan minor seminary of St. John’s Atonement and Rosary Hill College. He has also lectured at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Dr. Likoudis converted to the Catholic Church in 1952 from Eastern Orthodoxy and has since devoted a great deal of his efforts to foster the reunion of the Eastern Orthodox churches with the Catholic Church. He is the author of several books dealing with the ecclesiology of the Eastern Orthodox churches.
In 2020 he was awarded an honorary doctorate of divinity from Sacred Heart Major Seminary for his contributions to ecumenism, Catholic morality, and defense of the faith—especially the magisterium of the Catholic Church. He is the father of six, and he has thirty-five grandchildren and forty-five great-grandchildren.
